It can be overwhelming for students from low-income families to believe college is possible. Because of generous College Success Foundation supporters, CSF Alumnus Anthony achieved his dreams of a college degree and a meaningful career.
“I didn’t think college was possible. My single mother received her GED later in life and never attended college. Working multiple jobs, she didn’t have the resources or the time to help me explore options and navigate the application process,” Anthony says.
“While in high school, I became part of the CSF program. CSF gave me the opportunity to tour college campuses with my peers. Those campus visits changed everything for me!”
Anthony had the chance to spend three days at Washington State University with fellow scholars. They attended workshops, met with counselors and learned how to:
- Prepare for college while in high school
- Find the right fit college
- Navigate the admissions process
- Pay for college through financial aid, scholarships, and budgeting for expenses
- Make a successful transition from high school to college
Exposing students to different types of colleges gives them the insight to choose schools that align with their cultural beliefs and goals. But it’s also much more.
“We all begin to truly believe that college is where we belong when we experience a campus with our peers. It helps us feel included, wanted and valued,” Anthony says.
